The Brand Stand has had a load of fun in branding a very dynamic local abstract artist. To start, we got a private tour of his amazingly cool art studio in a stunning historic building downtown. Colors and bold lines were bursting out everywhere and the energy of the creative process was palpable. We examined up close the different media upon which his creations were born: canvas, Nepalese paper, awnings, car seats! We felt the history of activism and justice through his vibrant works and were moved to action.
As if that was not enough, we got to know his personal vibe, inspiration from anthuriums to found objects, Joan Mitchell to Frederick Douglass, social justice to botanical gardens. Our mission: take all of this and make a distinctive and bold brand for him. We gathered descriptive words, phrases and colors from his interviews, articles and videos, and utilized his signature in marketing materials. What better way to identify with an artist than his signature, right there in plain view on all of his artworks. We had a blast producing his mood board sporting imagery of flowers, lipstick, fashion, neon, bucket hats and more. And we learned a bundle about bold font styles for his logo designs. Our final plan for him was full of galleries, museums, collaboratives, public spaces and walls for murals.
We hope we will have this much fun again by helping more artists brand their trademark vibe.
